INCA TRAIL AND LAKE TITICACA TOUR 12 DAYS
$ 350.00 USD
Whitewater raft the Urubamba River, mountain bike Chinchero, hike out-of-the-way Inca trails near Machu Picchu, and kayak Lake Titicaca. Named after the famous Manco rulers of the Inca empire, this multisport extravaganza offers the chance to visit the famous sites of Peru while satisfying your craving for Peru adventures on one of our most active trips in Peru. The Inca Trail and Lake Titicaca Tour is not an ordinary Machu Picchu tour.
Day 1: Arrive Lima
The Inca Trail and Lake Titicaca Tour start when you arrive to Lima and a representative take you to your hotel. Overnight in Lima.
Day 2: Fly to Cusco – City Tour
An early morning flight brings you to the Inca capital of Cusco. After settling into your hotel, you can tour Cusco’s largest open market and the adjacent witches’ market, where natural medicines and charms for curing heartache and other afflictions are sold. Travelers will also have the opportunity to visit the Center for Traditional Textiles in Cusco, a local organization committed to preserving the region’s weaving traditions. Watch weavers demonstrate their craft and learn about the history and processes of Peru’s most well-known art form. The evening is yours to take in some of Cusco’s varied and exciting nightlife.
Day 3: Visiting Maras – Moray and Salineras
We will start the trip at approximately 8:30 am picking you up from your hotel in Cusco. Our first point of visit will be the picturesque town of Maras. Then we will go to the Archaeological Complex of Moray.
Finally we will visit the Salineras ‘natural salt wells’ which are platforms formed by hundreds of white wells that can be seen from a distance as if it were snow. We will be back in the City of Cusco at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Day 4: Cusco – Wayllabamba (13 kilometers)
The Inca Trail begins at kilometer 82 of the railway that leads to Machu Picchu (2 hours and 30 minutes by bus from the city of Cusco). Then the ascent to the Cusichaca valley will begin. The visitor will cross the ruins of Llactapata (2,840 m.a.s.l.) until reaching the town of Huayllabamba (3,057 m.a.s.l.).
Day 5: Wayllabamba – Pacaymayo (11 kilometers)
This day is the most difficult due to the physical requirement. The tourist will ascend to the Warmiwañuska (‘Passage of the dead woman’). This is the highest point of the route (4,215 m.a.s.l). From this point it is possible to see the archaeological site of Runkurakay (3,760 m.a.s.l).
Day 6: Pacaymayo – Wiñay Huayna (16 kilometers)
On this day the descent will be dizzying to the valley of the Pacaymayo River. The section goes down a stepped slope of almost 1,600 meters to the Sayaqmarca site (3,625 m.a.s.l.). Here the view is extraordinary.
Day 7: Wiñay Huayna – Machu Picchu (3 kilometers)
This day hides some of the best Inca samples: Phuyupatamarka, Wiñaywayna. By leaving these ruins, a gradual descent will be undertaken that will become more complicated in the end. Finally, you get to the Intipunku or Puerta del Sol. From there you will walk for another 30 minutes to the Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu.
Day 8: Transfer to Puno
This morning a luxury-class bus takes you from Cusco to the shores of Lake Titicaca. Along the way, enjoy optional visits to the “Sistine Chapel” of Peru and a pre-Incan site, as well as a huge lunch featuring traditional Peruvian cuisine.
Arrive at mystical Lake Titicaca in the early afternoon. Legend has it that the first Inca rose out of its azure waters. Transfer to your hotel and explore on your own this afternoon.
Day 9: Kayaking on Lake Titicaca – Ticonata Island
Depart this morning with your guide to the the floating islands of the peninsula of Capachica to Llachon, a small community of Aymara farmers where visitors are always welcome. Here you will practice our kayaking skills before launching from the beach. There is no better way to appreciate the mysticism of the area than with a silent two hour kayak trip over the crystal waters of this sacred lake.
After your kayak adventure, continue on to Ticonata Island where you will stay at the EcoVillage, a community run tourism project where you stay in replicas of the pre-Inca homes that existed in this area. This hidden corner of Lake Titicaca provides the chance to experience the tranquility of nature and Andean culture. Take a hike around the island to visit ancient ritual sites and a small musuem. Your guide will help translate the stories about the daily life and the traditions of this remote island on your Lake Titicaca tour.
Day 10: Sail to Amantani Island
Today continue on by sailboat for a two-three hour cruise to Amantani Island, a quiet island known for its hilltop ruins that honor Pachamama and Pachatata (Mother and Father Earth). Here you meet your host families whose generosity is apparent with their open arms (and open doors to their homes) and smiles, a highlight for most on Peru holidays. Explore this island with your guide and then settle in to share a short day in the lives of the Aymara. Enjoy a breath-taking sunset over Lake Titicaca.
Day 11: Return to Puno
After breakfast and bidding farewell to your host family, return to Puno by motor boat with stop at the floating islands of the Uros People. Peru’s floating islands are built using the buoyant totora reeds that grow along Lake Titicaca, and these reeds are interwoven to make homes, boats, and crafts. A ride in a traditional reed boat can be arranged with a local fisherman. Return to Puno, afternoon is free to explore on your own.
Day 12: Fly Lima and Return Home
Catch your flight to Lima and prepare for your red-eye flight home! This is the end of our Inca Trail and Lake Titicaca Tour.
